2016 Hemispheric Security Conference

JGI hit a milestone with its First Annual Hemispheric Security Conference held on March 30, 2016. With over a dozen speakers, professors, and national security experts over a span of four panels, this event was very informative. Participants in the conference included two former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Dr. Frank Mora and Mr. Stephen Johnson. Participants also included a wide-array of experts from around the Western Hemisphere, such as: Dr. Anthony Clayton, Dr. Jose Miguel Cruz, Dr. Evan Ellis, Dr. Marisa Bras, Dr. Kevin Quigley, Mr. Joseph Sinicrope, Dr. Mauro Gilli, Leutenant Colonel Dave Yarker, Dr. Eduardo Gamarra, Dr. Jonathan Rosen, Dr. Egoitz Gago Anton, Dr. Daniel Suman, Dr. Marten Brienen, Mr. Brian Fonseca, Dr. Edward Glab, and Dr. Orlando Pérez. If you would like to get a glimpse of what you missed, the links below show the full footage from that day and you can read the conference proceedings. In addition, Dr. Marten Brienen and Dr. Egoitz Gago Anton wrote two papers on important security issues that the region faces.

JGI will continue to host the Annual Hemispheric Security Conference in order to address the major security issues that the region confronts in the twenty-first century. The goal of this event is to provide a forum for academics, practitioners, and analysts to discuss the many threats from cybersecurity, energy security, environmental security, drug trafficking, and organized crime—among others.

We hope to see you next year!
