Dr. Orlando Perez and Professor Randy Pestana will be examining the future of Central America’s Northern Triangle (Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras) following the approval of the “Plan of the Alliance for Prosperity in the Northern Triangle” in the amount of $750 million. This increase in aid follows the removal and subsequent arrest of former Guatemalan President Otto Perez Molina, massive protests and allegations of corruption in Honduras, and the collapse of the gang truce in El Salvador leading to levels of violence not seen since its Civil War. Dr. Perez and Prof. Pestana will discuss the way ahead for the region, and analyze whether the Plan of Alliance will provide stability to a region in dire need. The discussion will be held live from Honduras and can be accessed via connect.fiu.edu/cpo4333.
