Mr. Mike Hernandez currently serves as the Senior Vice President for Mercury Public Affairs specializing in crisis communications, political and corporate consulting. He leads media and public speaking training sessions for corporate executives, public sector leaders, elected officials and candidates for public office throughout the country and served as a Senior Adviser and Communication Consultant for two successful congressional campaigns in South Florida in the 2018 election cycle.
Prior to his position at Mercury Public Affairs, he served as the Director of Communications for Miami-Dade County and as the official spokesman for Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. He managed crises communication efforts related to the outbreak of the Zika virus in the cities of Miami and Miami Beach; a controversial change to the County’s cooperation with Immigration & Customs Enforcement agency; and the preparation, evacuation and recovery efforts for Miami-Dade County related to Hurricane Irma.
Mr. Hernandez is the current President of Florida International University’s Alumni Association Board of Directors and has been a member since 2011. He has served as a Senior Advisor and Communication Consultant on various campaigns such as Debbie Mucarsel-Powell for Congress, Donna Shalala for Congress, and Mayor Carlos Gimenez’s reelection campaign for Miami-Dade County Mayor.
Mr. Hernandez holds a Maters Degree in Public Administration (2011) and a Bachelors Degree in Political Science (2004) both from Florida International University.
